Description

Gabions are wire fabric containers, uniformly partitioned of variable size,interconnected with other similar containers and filled with stone at the site of use, to form flexible,permeable,monolithic structures such as retaining walls, sea walls, channel linings, revetments and weirs for earth retention.

This specification covers gabions produced from triple-twisted heavy galvanized coated wire mesh,and metallic-coated wire for lacing wire(binding wire), selvedge wire used for manufacturing, assembling,and installation of the product.

Technical Requirement

Woven wire in accordance with EN 10223-3 for Hexagonal steel wires.

1)   All gabions to have internal diaphragms at 1.0m centers.

2)   Tolerances:the width, height and length of the gabion as assembled shall not differ more th an +/-5% from the ordered size prior to filling;

3)   Toleranceof openings: less than +/-10%

Materials

A.  Tensile strength: the steel wire used for manufacture of gabion and binding wire shall have tensile strength between 350-575N/mm² and in accordance with BSEN10218-2

B.  Elongation:Elongation shall not be less than 10%. Test must be carried out on a sample at least 25cm long.

C.  Wire tolerance:+/-3%

D.  Heavy Galvanizing conforms: BS EN10244-2:2001, Table 1, Class A. ASTM A641, Class3.

E.  The adhesion of zinc coating to the wire shall be strong enough to an extent that when the wire is wrapped six turns round a mandrel of 4 times the diameter of the wire, it does not flake or crack to such an extent that any zinc can be easily removed by rubbing with bare fingers.
